Publishing

Publish, in the editor, sends the article to its site. It always saves the local draft first, so a failed or cancelled publish never costs you your latest edits.

What happens, in order

  1. Any picture still stored only on this device — the intro image, the full article image, a picture custom field, or one referenced from inside the body text — is uploaded to the site's Media Manager, into the folder set on the site.
  2. Any tag that does not already exist on the site is created.
  3. The article itself — title, alias, body, category, tags, access level, language, custom fields, metadata — is sent as one request, creating a new article or updating the one this draft is already linked to. The title, body and metadata are stripped of invisible characters on the way out — see Normalise AI-generated content. Your local draft is not changed by that.

When Publish is blocked

Some sites require a custom field of a type Grafida cannot edit (a plugin-supplied field, for instance). Rather than publish something with that field silently blanked out, Grafida stops and tells you which field. From there you can:

  • Finish that field in the site's own back end first, then publish again, or
  • Publish anyway, which resends the value the field already had when this article was downloaded, unchanged — offered only when every blocking field actually has such a value.

If the site rejects it

Joomla's own validation message is shown as it came back from the site, with a shortcut to Reload metadata in case the cause is a stale category or tag list.

After a successful publish

Grafida asks whether to delete the local draft now that it has done its job, or keep it for further editing. Either way, the article on the site is unaffected by that choice.

Cancelling

A progress screen with a Cancel button is shown while publishing. Cancelling stops the request, but anything already sent — an uploaded picture, a newly created tag — is not undone, since there is no way to ask the site to take it back. Grafida tells you this plainly rather than guessing how far it got.
